When François Vasseur returns to his native France after three years of studying in the USA, at first glance hardly anything seems to have changed: His father, Gérard Vasseur, is still a pharmacist and womanizer and lives with his wife Anne Charpin-Vasseur, their daughter Michèle and their good-natured aunt Line in the Charpin-Vasseur family estate. François' feelings towards his pretty stepsister Michèle have not diminished during his absence. Only the candidacy of his stepmother Anne for the office of mayor comes as a surprise to young François, as the family has had little luck in politics so far. Shortly after his arrival, the family receives a letter relating to Anne's political ambitions. The letter reveals the Charpin-Vasseur family's dirty secrets and the upper-class façade begins to crumble. While Anne decides to ignore the anonymous letter for the time being and throw herself into the election campaign, François and his stepsister Michèle, who confesses that she has had romantic feelings for him since childhood, grow closer.
