Denny Bolton's family has produced a large crop of drunkards. His grandfather gets some bootleg liquor from Soapy Williams, the town bully. Denny and his grandfather attend the Memorial Day Parade. But Denny's grandfather disgraces himself. Denny goes after Soapy and gives him a good licking in front of the whole town. Denny's grandfather dies. Judge Maynard has taken a dislike to Denny, and turns the townspeople against him. Even his sweetheart, Doris Anderson, distrusts him, and believes Denny is drinking. So Denny heads for New York and becomes a boxer. He works his way up to a fight with the champion - Soapy Williams. But Denny disregards his trainer and pursues the night life on Broadway. Denny and Soapy square off in the ring. But Denny is defeated. Later, when Denny meets Williams in front of a nightclub. Williams taunts Denny about Doris, and Denny beats him soundly in a street fight. Denny goes back to Doris in triumph.
