Two small time criminals (Junghein and Britz) try to rob a bank in Dusseldorf and things go awry. They decide to take the bank clerks as hostages for 3 million German marks as ransom. The police try to trick them, until they realise that the real criminal mastermind is outside the bank controlling the whole show.
