Mrs Todd is aggrieved at finding that the country house she has bought is evidently haunted. Sir Hector Benbow and his nephew, on behalf of the previous owner, set out to demonstrate that there is no ghost.
Walls, Lynn, and Bostock sell Thark Manor to Brough who, on her first night, hears eerie sounds and deems the house to be haunted. The three salespersons then agree to spend a night in the house, fending off the thrills and chills in a highly humorous manner.
