A summer in Berlin: friends Katrin and Nike live in the same old apartment building in Prenzlauer Berg and often spend their evenings together on Nike's balcony, where they drink wine and chat late into the night. Katrin, who moved here from Freiburg, is unemployed and the single mother of a son. Nike is a trained seamstress, but works as a mobile geriatric nurse. After Katrin is almost run over by a truck, Nike gets to know the driver Ronald in her local pub and takes him home with her. She begins an affair with Ronald, who increasingly comes between the two friends. The trucker has his own ideas about life and love. Katrin feels abandoned by her friend. She tries to numb her loneliness with alcohol. After an argument between the two women, Katrin gets drunk without restraint. While she slowly recovers, Nike takes care of Katrin's son Max, who is suffering his first heartbreak. And Nike's new relationship with Ronald is not going smoothly either. But life goes on and it's still summer in Berlin.
