In the near future, the world is a grim place, constantly monitored by drones and ubiquitous cameras. Due to extreme overpopulation, a global law has been introduced that mandates that every citizen be randomly assigned a "soulmate" on their 13th birthday. However, this isn't a romantic relationship, but a deadly commandment that requires them to find and kill their soulmate to maintain population balance. The film tells the story of Mila Malinov, a 13-year-old girl living in a gloomy, sprawling apartment building in "Area 21." She survives by trading electronic parts for food, occasionally talking to her father on the phone. Is she ready to follow the law?
