Smoking Guns Reviews

A truly awful film based on a story written by B-western star, Ken Maynard, who also appears in this fiasco. Supposedly intended as a parody, SMOKING GUNS features Maynard assuming the identity of a Ranger who was chomped to death by a crocodile, even though he looks nothing like the dead man. He then proceeds to save his father from a gang of outlaws who have held the father captive for years. One sequence depicts Maynard preparing to amputate a fellow's leg, but the patient shoots himself in the head rather than become a victim of his "doctor's" hot poker. Universal seemed to catch on to the fact that Maynard just used this picture as an excuse to write off a hunting trip and demanded that he reshoot the footage. Maynard, instead, quit the studio and turned to independent productions.
