Billie, 20, missing one eye, is an African American tomboy from a military family. Freshly out of jail, she discovers that her estranged parents are about to be evicted and decides to stop at nothing to help them. But when her attempt at a bank robbery goes wrong, she ends up taking a young client hostage. The girl, named Franny, is 18, very pregnant, impulsively charming and has nothing left to lose. Together, they run away, embarking on a twisted journey, clashing and struggling for common ground, until Franny offers Billie an unexpected deal.
