A shell-shocked World War II veteran is taken in by relatives, who hope that a stable environment will help him overcome his issues. But even his family find their compassion strained by his increasingly erratic behavior.

Meeker returns from WW II with a problem. He suffers from shell-shock, and now becomes afraid every time it begins to rain. Davis, his big-hearted sister, wants him to live with her and her family in the bucolic suburbs. She and her husband must face the question of whether to allow Meeker around their two young children. Meeker conquers his neurosis when his nephew falls into a large body of water during a rainstorm. The story line gets too melodramatic, with Hagen thrown in to provide Meeker's love interest.
