Training dogs for combat operations is the novel theme of this documentary-flavored drama. With such lusty action scenes as invasion landings and Yanks battling in Jap-infested jungles sparking the film, youngsters should receive it enthusiastically while adults should find it entertaining. Larry Parks, portraying Private Allen, is transferred from a machine gun unit to the K9 Corps, and assigned to the training of Sergeant Mike, a German shepherd. The role of a canine nursemaid doesn't excite Allen much until he meets the dog's civilian master, a kid who lost his father in South Pacific action. Once overseas, the team deports itself commendably, wipes out a nest of Jap snipers, return home decorated. A slight love story between the kid's widowed mother and Allen is woven into the film. To Henry Levin, the director, goes credit for skillfully linking the many diverse threads of story into a pleasant and coherent picture.
