Sarbajaya is a family drama that revolves around the married life of our main protagonist Sarbajaya and her husband Shambhu, their families and the ups and downs that they face. The movie paces with the underlying issues of the society of the 70s in rural Bengal, at the turn of development and globalization. Sharbajaya finds herself in a series of problems and is faced with tough choices when she finds out that her husband has loaned some money from rich landlords, and that too by lying. Situations take a turn for the worse when she asks everyone for help, but no one can offer any help given their financial conditions and the ego and pride and the very nature of Shambhu. On top of it all, she is expecting and both families are shocked to find out that Shambhu, in a fit of rage, strangled her in the middle of the night and has gone off on a rampage. The movie ends on a happy note as Shambhu is being taken away by the police, but he makes up with Sharbajaya who wakes up from her state of shock, only to reconcile with him now that he has realized his mistakes.
