Laura's beliefs that the West is uncouth are confirmed when, while traveling to join her mother out west, her stagecoach is held-up by an outlaw gang. Further disappointment comes when she discovers that her mother is a saloon keeper dubbed "Cactus Kate." But all is rectified when a gang of raiders are repelled by the town's cowboys.
