Two young Swiss people, Vincent, a horticulturist, and Françoise, a secretary, have been married for two years. Since their routine life in Geneva no longer suits them and they do not yet feel ready to have a child, they decide to expatriate to the Third World in order to give meaning to their lives. One of their friends living in Algiers promises them work in an African country. However, just as they are about to leave, they receive a telegram asking them to cancel their departure. They return to their jobs and decide to have a child.
