While his adolescent son Troy is with a "trusted" source, Rick, a New York based computer hacker, is trying to locate his kidnapped wife Rachael, who he knows has been taken by a rural Arkansas based drug cartel and who he has seen online gagged and beaten by her captors on livestream videos. In interrupting an undercover drug bust in his quest to locate Rachael, Rick comes to the attention of the NYPD, most specifically Detective Mike Breslin, who is now after him as well. Mike has similar demons as Rick as his wife Shannon was killed because of his job. In the process of dealing with the same drug cartel, Rick and Mike individually end up in Arkansas. Sheriff Taye Biggs allows Mike to remain to do his work under his command, and assigns him to his underling, Sheriff Zoe Carter, as his local partner. What happens with this collective is affected by: the fine balance between the local authorities and the drug cartel in the latter not averse to targeting friends and family in any sort of retaliation; the unstated reason why Biggs assigned Carter to Mike; Rick's personal association to the cartel; and a growing rift within the cartel itself between its two heads, Jack Calloway and Frank Diego.
