In one of the American states, a major bank robbery is committed, resulting in the death of two security guards. Jim Conley, a bank employee, is accused of murder. Having irrefutable evidence, the state attorney general Ted Talbot seeks to impose a death sentence on Conley. A day later, one of the witnesses confesses to the murder, and a little later his body is found. Talbot's career is over. His friend and assistant Leo Harman, realizing that Talbot was cleverly set up, begins his own investigation.
