A new twist to the usual western yarn has Autry watching over three tough kids from the streets of Chicago sent west after their father died and left them a ranch. The kids bring their city ways to the ranch, making life tough for Autry and Burnette, but through Autry's good-heartedness he manages to teach the kids some morals. They in turn help Autry round up a gang of cattle rustlers. More of Autry's personality is allowed to shine through in this picture than in many of his others, as he is shown becoming more human around the boys. Direction is well paced with the changes that the boys go through convincingly portrayed. Autry sings three songs: "Hoofbeats of the Prairie," "The Girl in the Middle of My Heart," and "The West, a Nest and You." Burnette sings "Trigger Joe."
