Pajama Party Reviews

Kirk, a Martian sent to scout Earth for a possible invasion, meets the muscular McCrae and his friend Funicello, who forgets all about McCrae when she spies this groovy guy from way up yonder. McCrae's eccentric aunt, Lanchester, owns a dress shop that con men White and Lessy mean to rob of the fortune she's supposedly stashed away. Motorcycle gang leader Lembeck is set on breaking up McCrae and Funicello's relationship, and Kirk has a swell time convincing Funicello and Lanchester that he's really from outer space. Lanchester throws the title bash for all the teens in town (thereby moving the beach scene usually found in this sort of movie to an indoor setting). White and Lessy--still after Lanchester's money, in league with an Indian chief (Keaton) and the buxom Shaw--crash the party. Luckily, Kirk saves the day, teleporting the bad guys to Mars and taking care of the bikers too. He and Funicello end up arm in arm, while White and the non-English-speaking Shaw also start a sort of romance. A follow-up to BEACH PARTY, the film is fun in its own limited way. Shaw steals the show with her comic and sexy performance. Frankie Avalon makes a cameo appearance, as does another beach veteran, Don Rickles. It's sad to see the great silent clown Keaton reduced to playing Chief Rotten Eagle, however. Songs include "It's That Kind of Day," "There Has to Be a Reason," "Where Did I Go Wrong?" "Pajama Party," "Beach Ball," "Among the Young," "Stuffed Animal" (Guy Hemric, Jerry Styner).
