My Dad Is a Sausage

Zoë (11) has a somewhat strange but thoroughly endearing family. While her mother, Veronique (42), travels the world as a sales representative for the family-run chocolate factory and is rarely home, her father, Paul (42), works in a bank. Her older sister, Fien (15), is a real nerd, and her brother, Kas (17), believes the world is about to end and wants to be prepared for all eventualities at all times. Zoë has just changed schools. There, she feels like a chameleon in the jungle-invisible and surrounded by wild predators. She finds it difficult to make new friends. And her family isn't really helping either. That's why she's stopped speaking. When her father comes home one evening, completely upset, and announces to his children that he's quit his job and wants to become an actor, Zoë and her siblings can't believe it. While Fien is convinced her father suffered a burnout and Kas believes he's gone completely crazy, only Zoë believes in her father's dream. But what will her mother say when she returns from her business trip? Zoë's mother is also shocked when she hears the news. How will they pay off the mortgage on the house now? Paul is certain he'll find work as an actor and the family won't have to go without his income. And doesn't she remember how good he was as Romeo when the two were on stage together in a school play at 17? Zoë's mother can't believe he's serious, but doesn't want to start an argument. But then Zoë's grandparents show up at the door. Her mother's father, Zoë's grandfather and owner of the chocolate factory, is anything but thrilled when it turns out that Paul is pursuing an acting career. When he delivers an embarrassing performance of his acting skills right at the dinner table, the grandfather doubts his son-in-law's accountability. The evening escalates into an argument. Finally, Paul has an idea: He wants to take some time off to pursue his dream. If he doesn't manage to become successful as an actor during that time, he'll go back to his old job at the bank. The weeks pass. And even though Zoë's father is diligently working on his acting career and regularly goes to auditions, he just can't seem to land a role. But Paul has no intention of going back to his job at the bank. After an incident at her school, her father suggests that Zoë take a few days off to accompany him to his auditions. When she sees him there, she realizes how nervous he is and that he desperately needs support. So Zoë rehearses for the auditions with him. And finally, her father gets a role after all. But when Zoë's mother finds out that she's been skipping school and her husband is supposed to appear as a giant sausage in a commercial, their relationship is on the rocks. It's up to Zoë, with the support of her siblings, to turn things around for the better.
