Mrs. Upton's Device

Mrs. Upton introduces her friend Molly Meeker to her husband's young friend Walter Bliss. She has an idea that they were made for each other. She gives an evening party and invites the young people. To throw them more closely together, she appoints Walter as Molly's escort home. At home, each, in the quiet of their room, dreams of the other. Mrs. Upton is relentlessly determined to see these two young people married, and again she and Mr. Upton invite them to spend the weekend at their country home. Naturally they are thrown in each other's society playing lawn tennis. In pleasant walks and drives about the villa, which terminate in their engagement. The course of true love never did run smooth, and it is not long before they quarrel and break their engagement. This is a severe blow to Mrs. Upton, but she despairs not. She tries again by inviting Molly to go to the opera with her, then invites Walter without telling Molly. They both accept and are not a little embarrassed to be thrown together again. Gradually the humor of the situation begins to dawn upon them, and it is not long before their differences are repaired and Walter once more places the ring upon Molly's finger.
