The story revolves around Balu, who falls in love at first sight with his neighbor Swapna. She also falls for him instantly. But Balu's father and Swapna's mother oppose their love. They ask them to remain separated for one year and after one year if they are still in love, they can get married, for which the couples agrees. What happens in that one year forms the rest of the story. Yesteryear film Maro Charitra (1978), directed by K Balachandar is like a dictionary for celluloid love stories. The movie starred Kamal Haasan in the lead role as a protagonist and Saritha in the female lead. Later it was remade in Hindi as Ek Duuje Ke Liye in 1981. This film is an adaptation of the classic by K Balachandar.
