High school teacher Carsten is married and has an adult son. At the same time, he has a relationship with a former student, Pil, who is active on the far left. One day Pil participates in a political action that goes wrong. A policeman is killed and Pil is imprisoned. Carsten chooses to support Pil and divorces his wife. But a man is dead and two families are destroyed, and soon Carsten can no longer keep his guilt at bay.
