When Nick's longtime girlfriend leaves him, he tries to seek solace in Abby, a clerk in a self-help bookstore. Although she seems largely uninterested in him and tries to keep their relationship professional, Nick eventually wears her down enough to agree on a date. Nick's best friend, Hattie, warns him about the dangers of hooking up with strange women, but he brushes her off. Nick takes Abby on a romantic picnic where he serenades her. His overt romanticism disgusts her and she leaves. After being nearly hit by a car, Nick decides to pursue Abby and win her back. He tracks her address down through her job at the bookstore and goes to her house. Although Abby thinks it's creepy that her found her, she agrees to hear him out. Nick blunders through an apology and a dramatic declaration of love for Abby then tries to kiss her. Fed up with Nick's antics, Abby reveals her true demonic form and eats him. A few days later, Abby's brother Mark comes over and confronts her about "falling off the wagon" and killing a human. He's concerned because his girlfriend, Hattie has been bugging him about her best friend being missing and he doesn't want to go through the effort of conducting a search party. Abby justifies Nick's brutal murder with "he was annoying." and leaves to go back to work. Mark, irritated at his sister's nonchalance, cleans up the remains of Nick's grisly demise and begins to formulate a plan to cover up another one of Abby's mistakes.
