The film adapts Oskar Panizza's controversial 1894 play. It depicts God, Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and the Devil convening to punish humanity's immorality. The Devil creates syphilis as a divine punishment, spreading it through Salome, starting at the papal court and beyond. Using grotesque, theatrical imagery, the film satirizes religion, morality, and censorship, blending allegory and provocative staged drama.
