Many years earlier, Martin Baxter's wife was killed during a fatal MI6 operation. Afterwards, the agent quit his job with the secret service because he blamed himself for the mission's failure. Baxter now earns his living as a bouncer and through illegal boxing matches, where his twelve-year-old daughter Lisa places bets. One night, he is suddenly asked for help by Ukrainian journalist Sasha. She has discovered that the secret documents relating to the operation are stored in a safe deposit box in Kiev. These documents could expose the activities of the Russian secret service. The fact that two killers are trying to kill the young woman shows just how explosive these documents are. At the last second, Baxter manages to prevent this. Shortly afterwards, the ex-agent is visited by his former superior Trevor, who wants to use the documents to expose a mole in his own ranks. He warns Baxter not to help Sasha. Baxter actually wants to stay out of the matter, but then Lisa is kidnapped. Russian FSB agent Tatyana gives him an ultimatum: he must obtain the documents and hand over Sasha within 24 hours. Baxter is now caught between all fronts and completely on his own.
