The beautiful Stéphane Feuvrier has just killed Wadek Aslanian, a notorious gangster and smooth talker, in her own home. With the help of Madeleine, her lifelong servant, she tries to make it look like an attempted rape. While she is taken to prison, her husband Georges, a respected magistrate and a true representative of a certain Bordeaux bourgeoisie, asks his friend Paul Delorme, a lawyer, to defend her. Paul begins his investigation. Little by little, he uncovers Stéphane's troubled past - a child of poverty, a high-class call girl, and a visceral rebel - deeply in love with Aslanian, a revolutionary criminal she had long hoped to persuade to live with her one day.
