Hubert Durieux, a banker in a small provincial town, devotes the little free time his job allows him to his ex-wife, Brigitte, who is still in love with him; to his daughter, Florence, in whom he confides; and to Elsa, his mistress, who gives him no peace. Exhausted by all the attention he receives, he transfers his affection to his beautiful car-until a charming gypsy woman steals it right from under his nose. Furious, he reports the theft to the police, who recover the car and return it to him. The thief, named Mona, had hidden in the trunk to evade capture. And so Hubert Durieux finds himself dealing with a fourth woman, who turns his life upside down.
