Krnov, a picturesque Czech town, was the home for a thriving Jewish community until WWII, when the Nazis came to power. After the war, not a single Jew remained in Krnov. Half a century later, an unlikely alliance of ordinary Czech citizens comes together with one goal: to revive the Jewish life in the region by renovating the local synagogue - and by converting to Judaism. They are Jews by choice, aspiring to give birth to the first Jewish community in the region since the Holocaust. Who is a Jew? Who can determine what it means to be Jewish? Their enthusiastic aspirations encounter numerous growing obstacles from the Jewish establishment leading to internal strife and threatening the future of their close-knit fellowship.
