Victor Vauthier is a master of masquerade and an incorrigible crook. No sooner has he served a three-month prison sentence than he returns to his old life of swindles, scams and amorous adventures. Victor lives with his uncle Camille in a converted caravan and is always planning new coups: Sometimes he sells things that don't even belong to him, sometimes he deals with shady business partners or wraps women around his finger with his irresistible charm. The idealistic probation officer Marie-Charlotte Pontalec is supposed to lead Victor back to the right path - but he is hardly impressed. Instead, he involves the young woman in a turbulent game of cat-and-mouse and tries to cast a spell over her. When Victor learns that Marie-Charlotte's father works as the manager of a museum in which a valuable El Greco painting hangs, he hatches a bold plan: together with Camille, he wants to steal the work of art. But the planned heist turns into a series of mishaps, mix-ups and comic situations. While Victor is torn between his rogue nature and his feelings for Marie-Charlotte, she finds out what he is actually up to.
