Evandro is an 18-year-old teenager from a crime-ridden favela in Brazil. Evandro's dream to make it as an honest businessman is derailed when his drug-trafficking brother is killed by police; Evandro's mother, Arleta, demands vengeance. After killing the officers responsible, Evandro is revered in the favela and made a leader of the 'Comandos' street gang. Opposite Evandro is Victor Morello, a morally bankrupt and alcohol-dependent detective who crosses paths - the first in a series of violent interactions - with Victor during a bank heist.
