Don Theison is a frustrated writer hacking fares as a cabby. His only diversion from his mundane life are the unpublished 1940's detective novel he writes. He only escapes his pathetic reality through his fictional detective -Starling. A string of savage serial murders sparks Don's imagination and his curiosity. He and his alter-ego, Starlin set out to unravel the mysterious murders. As Don investigates the slaying, his make believe world and real life become intertwined, and he gets uncomfortably close to discovering who the killer is, and the killer knows it. When veteran police detective Malkiewitz, hot on the killers trail, begins to suspect Don of the brutal murders, Don's investigative fantasies turns into a real life nightmare. As Don unwittingly frames himself for the murders, Malkiewitz's race to capture the cities most despicable killer is accelerated. With every shred of evidence against him, no one believes Don's innocence, not family friends, the police or even his lawyer. Trapped in a true life or death struggle, Don Theison has only one hope for survival - find the real killer...before the killer finds him.
