Grandmother's Plot

The granddaughter of a farmer is in love with one of the farm hands, a fine, manly looking fellow, but the farmer sits on the little affair with great suddenness. Her grandmother, however, remembers that she herself was young once, and focuses her brain on the subject. The plot is hatched, and the maiden is to become ill, and the doctor is to be sent for; then, when he arrives, grandmother will let him into the deep business, and he prescribes accordingly. All happens as was planned. The old farmer sends for the doctor; the grandmother buttonholes him as he arrives, and tells him the tale. Consequently, the farmer is a beaten man, as with all three against him he has to give in, and does it with a very good grace.
