The film Gott mit Uns is an exploration of metaphors and symbols of national identities. The focus of the film are three flags that were used in Prussia, and footage from zoological Gardens in contemporary Scotland. The title, which means God with us in English, was used as a motto by the armed forces of Prussia, the historical state that formed a majority of the German empire at the time of its unification in1871. The scenes from the zoological gardens was shot six months apart, at Edinburgh Zoo and the site of Glasgow Zoo in October 2012 and march 2013 respectively. Glasgow Zoo has been derelict for a decade and the grounds are as of 2013 being developed into real estate.
