Rival factions are reconciled in a fictional African country during its independence from colonial rule. Shot in Nigeria, this was the first all-African colour feature film written and performed by a multinational African cast. The excellent cinematography is by one of Walt Disney's cameramen, Rickard Tegström. The film was inspired by a stage play of the same name, also written by the cast. They were originally encouraged to write the play by Dr Frank Buchman, founder of the Moral Re-Armament (MRA) movement, who described them as "the saints of Africa".
