As a means of communication, the residents of Fogo Island in the Canadian province of Newfoundland discuss various issues of daily concern to them, in this film primary fishermen in a meeting moderated by provincial Ministry of Fisheries staff about commercial fishing in general, including processing. The fishermen talk about dwindling stocks especially in relation to what has been done in the past based on "expert" advice, the want to have a fuller supply chain in the fishing industry on Fogo Island, and the waste they are experiencing in catching other fish than cod, which accounts for the bulk of the commercial fishing industry. After the fact, The Hon. Aiden Maloney, Newfoundland's Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Community and Social Development, reacts on behalf of his government to what is presented at that meeting.
