Miles' life is disorganised and, at a friend's advice, buys himself a computer. However, nothing prepares him for the chaos that ensues, when the computer (who calls himself Edgar) starts expressing human thoughts and emotions culminating in both man and machine falling in love with the same woman: Madeline, the beautiful cellist who lives upstairs.
