It's a thin world. From an early age, women learn that to be thin is to be happy, and that constant policing of our food intake, politely called dieting, is essential. But is it? Do diets even work? Could it be that they are all part of the problem, not part of the solution? Why should women's lives come under such attack? Why should women's bodies become the ultimate battle ground? Most people have heard of anorexia nervosa, and know something of its alarming effects. Few people realise, however, that it is just one of a number of life-threatening conditions, collectively known as eating disorders. 'Eating Your Heart Out' is about four such eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa. Bulimia. Obesity. And a condition known as the fat/thin woman. Left unchecked, each condition can, and often does, become a sophisticated style of suicide.
