The services of the Royal Canadian Air Force were integral in Canada's war effort during WWII. These military aviation efforts were borne out of the work of the bush pilots, their adventurous spirit matching that of the subsequent RCAF pilots. Bush pilots, since the 1920s, have provided services, among others, in exploration, fire protection, search and rescue, and general transport for commercial ventures, such as in mining, and to remote areas, including the north which was not initially deemed air navigable. Their work could not be accomplished without support, such as from navigators, mechanics and engineers, the latter especially in advances in technology.
