Theresa is thirty, single, a frustrated writer and a heavy drinker who finds herself living back home with her overbearing Italian American family. Here she tries to re-new the bond with her former best friend and cousin, Ronnie. Ronnie has married Joe, a violent thug the two women grew up with. While trying to convince Ronnie to leave Joe, Theresa can't seem to find a man of her own -- the only guy in her life is a catty gay man she befriends at the local bar. While the bar may not provide her with a suitable man to love, the female bartender develops a mad crush on Theresa and is more than willing to lend a helping hand.
