A boy and his dogs, a dog and his ducks. Mike, a terrier, has it made until his master gets a golden retriever pup. Within a year, the pup, named Golden Prince, is hard at work learning the skills of his breed. We watch them practice, with Pete Smith providing the narration and Mike the comic relief. After a year and a half, Golden Prince is ready for his first competition: retrieving three live ducks from a marshy lake. How will he do, and how will Mike respond? The film finishes with Prince's first ocean retrieval.
