In 1963, in a Germany that seems to have forgotten the war and National Socialism, the opening of the Frankfurt trial puts an end to collective amnesia: former SS soldiers are put on trial for their involvement in the running of the Auschwitz camp, almost twenty years after the end of the Nuremberg trials. Witnesses and defendants took the stand for 180 days, some describing the worst of which humanity is capable, others hiding behind procedures and orders, proof of persistent denial.
