Dear Earth is a silent narrative that combines video elements and pencil drawings to create, in Flash, an animation that is both confronting and quite beautiful. It is based on a self-portrait, a video whose deconstructed stills form the residual backbone of the work. The drawings have been developed from these stills to evoke a mood that is not often seen in animation; they are traditional art works that serve to soften the digital nature of Dear Earth. This short film combines these elements, using frame-based animation techniques and some Flash coding, to present a piece that engages the viewer in a situation that could not be more personal.
