After the accidental death of her parents, the boarding school teacher Laura Melzer took on the role of mother for her younger sister Anna. When Laura now wants to go on vacation with Anna, the 18-year-old feels overwhelmed by the care of her sister. The tempting offer from Anna's friend Dorian comes at the right time. The spoiled daughter of an American multimillionaire has no increased desire to go to Venice, where her father has booked an exclusive painting course for her. Dorian prefers to spend the long vacation with her secret lover, the adored sports teacher Stefan Schürmann, and suggests that Anna spend the luxury vacation in Italy instead of the planned one. Anna agrees; but the spontaneous change of roles is her undoing: She is kidnapped instead of Dorian. Dorian learns of the kidnapping, but for fear that the father will discover their love affair, she abandons her friend and does not clear up the fatal error. Not only the blackmailers believe that the millionaire's daughter is in their power. Dorian's father also has no idea how things are and is therefore ready to pay the two million dollars ransom demanded to the kidnappers. Since Anna has also disappeared, her sister Laura quickly suspects that the abductee could be her sister. Together with Everett Burns, Dorian's father's security expert, Laura is desperately looking for her sister and finds out that her lovable colleague Schürmann is in cahoots with the kidnappers.
