Charlie and Mae, an aging couple, are getting ready to sleep. But Charlie is not 'there' with her at all - he's seemingly 'locked in' to his own body on the bed. Mae is very aware of this but talks to him casually anyhow and we witness how she takes care of him on this particular night. Soon after they're both asleep, Charlie wakes up from a nightmare, gets out of bed, and changes everything for one night into the next morning.
