Bolero Reviews

Subtitled "An Adventure in Ecstasy," BOLERO must rank as one of the worst major movies ever made. Many awful movies are at least funny in a campy sort of way. Bo and John Derek, however, make films so sincerely bad that they offer nothing in the way of relief. Bo Derek is a rich girl who, on graduating from an exclusive British boarding school, is determined to lose her virginity. She and best friend Obregon go off to Arabia, accompanied by Derek's chauffeur-bodyguard, Kennedy. There Derek meets the sheik (Bensen) of her dreams, who offers to deflower her, but falls asleep before he gets to the flesh. (When the actors fall asleep in the movie, you know the production is in trouble.) Failing to have her wish fulfilled in Arabia, she moves on to Spain, where she meets bullfighter Occhipinti. But the course of true love seldom runs smooth. BOLERO had several titles early in the game, but a rose by any other name would still smell.
