Blowing Wild Reviews

The producers got Cooper and Tiomkin (who teamed well in HIGH NOON), but it didn't help this ordinary movie get out of the doldrums. Cooper is a wildcatter in Mexico in the early 1930s. Times are bad because he's besieged by bandits. He turns to Quinn, a rich oilman, for a job but Quinn is wreaking revenge for the affair Cooper had with Stanwyck, Quinn's fiery wife. Barbara would like to bed Cooper again, but he's being true to Roman, an American woman who's stranded south of the border. Garcia, the bandit leader, demands $50,000 or he'll blow up the oil field. The tempers and passions flare, while Cooper struggles to maintain his legendary cool. Tighter editing and better definition of Stanwyck's character would have been a big help to this meandering opus.
