Peter Denver (Van Heflin) is a Broadway producer who has an affair with a temptress of a young actress while his wife, Iris (Gene Tierney), is out of town. Before long, Denver, conscience-stricken, decides to break things off with his paramour; before he can even break the news to her, he finds her dead in his penthouse apartment.
