While delivering money from the family business to the bank, John Tremaine spies his girlfriend, Julia Cameron, locked in an embrace with his brother David. Stunned, John delivers the money to the bank but instead of returning home, he leaves the country. Years later he returns home, only to find that David has died, the family plantation is in ruins and that he is suspected of being a thief--the money he delivered to the bank that day was short a substantial amount, and he was suspected of stealing it. He resolved to get the plantation running again and find out what happened to the missing money, but it turns out that there's more to the story than meets the eye.
