The Jones family gets mixed up in an oil-scheme racket as a football star, Ted Hewitt (Allan Lane), returns to his hometown and sells John Jones (Jed Prouty) and other citizens to invest. The oil wells contain only mud and water, but an invention by the oldest Jones boy, Jack Jones (Kenneth Howell), brings in money to cover the losses of the investors.
