Aurora and Daniel are about to go out for a six month anniversary dinner. Forgetting something at the diner, she suggests they meet at the diner instead of her house. Arriving first, she discovers their boss, diner owner Emilio Torres, on the kitchen floor, stabbed in the back to death. Despite Daniel and Emilio having more than a good relationship, the latter who constantly fostered the former's career, Daniel is at the top of the suspect list solely based on surface level evidence, including that the murder weapon is from Daniel's personal kitchen knife collection, and that only his prints are on the knife. As such, Detective Cook, with Arthur by his side, is prepared to charge Daniel with murder. Incensed in not only knowing Daniel and Emilio's relationship but knowing Daniel to be a caring person who goes out of his way to help people, Aurora begins to investigate on her own which includes discovering why anyone would want to kill Emilio, who didn't seem to have an enemy in the world, with perhaps the exception of his ex-wife, Lauren Walsh, and their teenage son, Stephen Torres, the two Torres men who had a somewhat estranged relationship since the divorce.
