An Affair to Remember Reviews

This grand soaper finds Grant traveling to New York aboard a luxury liner, where he meets Kerr. During the voyage they become close, but both have someone waiting for them in the States. They agree that if they still feel the same way about each other in six months, they will meet again at the top of the Empire State Building. When the ship docks, Grant leaves with Patterson, Kerr with Denning. Grant keeps the rendezvous six months later, but Kerr does not appear; she has been run over by a car en route to the meeting and is permanently crippled. Grant tries to forget all about her but has a chance meeting with her some time later. Believing she would be a burden to him, Kerr discourages Grant's attempts to rekindle their affair. When he learns she is permanently disabled, he vows to stay at her side forever. This film is one of the most effective tearjerkers ever made and is given sophistication and style by its consummate lead actors. The title song is performed by Vic Damone. Nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Song ("An Affair to Remember" by Harry Warren, Harold Adamson and Leo McCarey), Best Cinematography, Best Score and Best Costume Design. (A remake of LOVE AFFAIR with Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne.)
